Tabcorp Holdings is expanding its Sun bets brand with a new proprietary wagering platform it hopes will allow the venture to compete in the UK market.
The Australian firm launched Sun Bets with News UK last year.
Tabcorp CIO Kim Wenn, the project lead for the new platform, told ITNews Australia that the firm dedicated a 188-member team to the platform’s development and has spent AUS $20 million on the new system.
The project uses Tabcorp’s existing fixed odds and customer wallet technology and digital offerings. It also offers Playtech Casino software for bingo and gaming content, and a UK payment gateway solution to localize the platform.
“This is very much about building something that is scalable, transferable and on our own software,” Wenn said. “So, while establishing a profitable business in the UK is important, it’s also about building more capability. Sun Bets is about extending the organization beyond its traditional boundaries and pushing our digital team in terms of how we build products and think about betting.”
Wenn said the Sun Bets platform will seek to leverage News UK’s TheSun.co.uk portal, which is in the global top 20 for news & entertainment.
Tabcorp is readying a soft launch of the platform and expects “exceptional growth” in 2017, she said.
