Tatts Group of Australia will have a new name come 2015: “UBET.” According to the Victoria Age, the name change is part of a bigger plan by the company to fight back against new online competitors. Tatts CEO Robbie Cooke acknowledged the company has been slow to respond as other corporate bookmakers entered the market.
“UBET is a great, punchy name,” said Cooke. “It’s embracing where the business is heading and that’s making sure we have a vibrant, live, young brand that responds both to racing and sport,” Cooke said. The campaign will include a new look and mobile-friendly web presence including a mobile app. It will be used “across all our customer touch points,” he said. “We’ve got a two-year horizon in our minds for an intense repositioning of the business.”
The Tatts wagering division operates more than 1,400 retail outlets in Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory and has a national presence through online, mobile app and phone services.
In the 2013-14 financial year, the division posted a 2 percent fall in revenue to $642.3 million.
