Taylor Named Multi-State Lottery Association President

Indiana Hoosier Lottery Executive Director Sarah Monnett Taylor recently was named president of the Multi-State Lottery Association, the group that oversees Powerball.

“It’s my honor to help lead the 38-member lotteries with a strategic plan to help each one responsibly maximize profits for all the good causes they support,” Taylor said. :Powerball is the number one product of the Multi-State Lottery Association and has successfully helped generate billions for good causes.”

A native of Greencastle, Indiana, Taylor was appointed executive director of the Hoosier Lottery in 2013 by then-Governor Mike Pence and reappointed in 2017 by Governor Eric Holcomb. Previously she was vice president of the Multi-State Lottery Association and served as chairwoman of its audit and finance committees.

In Indiana, Hoosier Lottery profits—after paying game winners and other costs—total about $300 million a year, according to state records. Those funds are transferred to the state’s general fund to reduce vehicle excise taxes and to support pension funds for teachers and public safety workers.

Since Powerball was launched in 1992, Indiana has had 39 big jackpot winners—more than any other state, according to the Hoosier Lottery.
