Melco International Development Ltd. has opened a temporary “pop up” casino on the island of Cyprus under the permanent City of Dreams Mediterranean casino resort it currently building opens. The “pop up” is operating in the former Orphanides supermarket and can accommodate about 1,000 people.
Melco International has opened the temporary casino, dubbed “C2” in the city of Limassol as the company works towards a more formal grand opening in September. The City of Dreams Mediterranean, also in Limassol, is expected to be completed by 2021, at which time C2 will close, according to the Cyprus Mail.
The casino has 242 slot machines, 33 gaming tables, a VIP gaming area, dining and two bars. It will be open 24/7 and is expecting about 25,000 players a month.
City of Dreams Mediterranean President Craig Ballantyne told the Mail: “Even though C2 is a pop-up casino, this property will give new meaning to the term,” adding, “We’ve invested close to EUR13 million [USD15 million] in this facility to ensure that every one of our guests experiences the renowned standards and quality of service which Melco, one of the world’s largest integrated resort operators, is famous for.”
The new “pop up” has nearly 600 employees, three-quarters of them from the island. The owners say that when the planned permanent casino is finished it could create 6,500 jobs and attract 300,000 visitors annually.
