Inspired by South Beach luxury
The clumsily named THEHotel in Las Vegas has changed its name to something that rolls more trippingly off the tongue. The South Beach-inspired Delano Las Vegas, a 1,100-room, all-suite nongaming hotel, underwent an $80 million makeover that started in April.
“Delano is well-known in the East Coast, and we think the name will help expand our customer base,” General Manager Matthew Chilton told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The new hotel features a new restaurant, and an Alain Ducasse eatery is slated to open later this year on the site of a former nightclub.
Among the dramatic features of the property are two sections of a 126,000-pound boulder excavated from a desert rock quarry that marks one entryway. “We wanted to create a striking entry to the property,” Chilton said. The hotel remained open throughout the renovation.
Union Gaming Group analyst Robert Shore says the property’s upscale cachet and tony reputation will allow it to charge higher room rates than are typical along the Strip, about $200 a night. The Delano brand “signifies a certain quality level and price point to consumers,” Shore said.
“Overall, MGM continues to make market shares gains from re-programming properties with smartly invested (capital expenditure) dollars,” he added.
