Galveston, Texas, billionaire Tilman Fertitta’s new book, “Shut Up and Listen,” chronicles how his philosophy of always trying to stay ahead of the competition helped him create an empire composed of Fertitta Entertainment, Landry’s, the Golden Nugget Casinos and Hotels and the Houston Rockets. Fertitta stars in his own reality TV show, “Billion Dollar Buyer.”
In an interview with the Texas Inc., Fertitta, whose net worth is put at $5.2 billion by Forbes, talked about being outbid in his attempt to purchase Caesars Entertainment. “I think you’re going to see a lot of Caesars broken up and different properties could come back my way,” he said.
A partner in Dignitas Gaming, an eSports company, Fertitta observed, “I know eSports gets a lot of eyeballs, but until you can show me sponsors and TV deals, I don’t know. If you want to know what’s truly going to happen in the future, just look at what the kids are doing today. eSports is totally going to evolve.”
He continues to maintain close relations with his cousins, Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, who own Station Casinos. He said, “I have all the respect in the world for them. Everything I’ve ever needed, they’re there for me and I’m there for them. We might not talk to each other for three or four months, but when you pick up the phone and talk to each other, you can tell each other anything. We all think alike, we have all the same genes. If you own 100 restaurants and my brother owns one, everybody’s your competition.”
