Tinian Approves Online Gambling

Tinian—one of the three principal islands of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands—has amended its Gaming Control Act to allow online gaming in the municipality.

Tinian’s and Aguiguan’s Legislative Delegation has unanimously approved a bill to amend the island’s Gaming Control Act to allow online gambling as well as amending casino license fees and tax rates. All four members of the Tinian and Aguiguan Legislative Delegation unanimously approved the House Local Bill 20-30 that was introduced by Rep. Edwin Aldan, also amending casino license fees and tax rates. The bill now goes to the island’s governor.

The bill now goes to the island’s Governor. It allows for online gambling sponsored by land-based casino hotels on the island and requires geo-location software to limit players to those physically in the jurisdiction.

License fees were set at $500,000 for a casino license and additional $300,000 for online gaming. It sets taxes on online gambling revenue at five percent.
