Tipico Expands Sports Betting Operations to Iowa

Global sportsbook operator Tipico has formed a 10-year partnership with Isle Casino Hotel in Bettendorf, Iowa and Caesars Entertainment. Tipico officials said the company expects to launch its mobile sports betting app in Iowa in the fourth quarter. Under state law, sports betting operators must have a physical location in Iowa; the Bettendorf casino will serve that purpose.

Malta-based Tipico already operates sportsbooks in Colorado and New Jersey and plans to expand into Indiana. It operates numerous sportsbooks throughout Germany.

Adrian Vella, director of Tipico’s U.S.-based subsidiary, said the move into Iowa and Indiana “marks an important step as we continue to expand our U.S. footprint. We look forward to establishing our brand presence in the Midwest, and introducing our highly scalable, proprietary multi-state sports betting experience to players in Indiana and Iowa.”

In July, Tipico announced an agreement with Gannett to be the exclusive provider of sports-betting odds. Gannett, owner of USA Today, the Des Moines Register, Iowa City Press-Citizen and more than 200 other newspapers, will be compensated for customer referrals.
