Assuming it wins a new Macau gaming concession, U.S.-based casino operator Wynn Macau Ltd. has created the position of chief marketing officer (CMO). The appointee will report to Linda Chen, currently vice chairman, chief operating officer and an executive director of Wynn Macau Ltd, Wynn Resorts communications officer Michael Weaver told GGRAsia.
Ahead of the new concession tender, which is expected to be complete this year, the local government has informed bidders that they will benefit from drawing more international customers, beyond Mainland China.
Macau’s amended gaming law gives Macau’s chief executive the discretion to reduce the tax payable on gross gaming revenue (GGR) by up to 5 percentage points for operators who attract “customers from foreign countries.”
“The CMO, among other duties, will lead programs we are developing to highlight our extensive non-gaming amenities to Chinese travelers and, more importantly, reach new, untapped markets of international travelers,” said Weaver. “We created the new position to allow the company to more quickly and effectively respond to the evolving market in Macau.”
Wynn Macau Ltd. runs the Wynn Macau resort on the city’s peninsula, and Wynn Palace on Cotai.
Per GGRAsia, Chen herself is an expert in marketing, especially to Chinese consumers. It was recently announced that she will assume the role of president of Wynn Macau when Ian Coughlan leaves in February. In related news, Ciarán Carruthers will be leaving his position as chief operating officer of the Wynn Macau property on September 30 to become CEO at Crown Resorts.
