Cherokees Seek Dismissal of Lawsuit Over Pope County License

On July 26 Cherokee Nation Businesses and Entertainment (CNBE) filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Gulfside Casino Partnership, its main rival that was vying for CNBE’s Pope County, Ark. casino license.

CNBE was awarded the license June 27 and Gulfside filed suit July 2, claiming that the tribe engaged in coercion. According to KVOM, CNBE is also fighting against a proposed constitutional amendment for November’s ballot. A committee called “Local Voters in Charge” reportedly gathered over 160,000 signatures from voters who are against a casino.

Agua Caliente Casinos, Firekeepers Get Attention of Wine Spectator

Two restaurants at the Agua Caliente Casinos in California last week revealed they again won Wine Spectator Awards of Excellence for 2024, reports Indian Gaming. The Steakhouse at Agua Caliente Casino Rancho Mirage and The Steakhouse at Agua Caliente Casino Palm Springs are both repeat award winners. The Palm Springs location has gotten the award 17 consecutive years, and the Palm Springs location has won it 20 consecutive years.

In Michigan, Firekeepers Nibi restaurant was honored for the third consecutive year.

The award honors restaurants that “feature a well-chosen assortment of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style,” according to the Wine Spectator website. Restaurants should have at least 90 choices of wine.
