Tribe’s Online Radio Station Prospers

A gaming tribe in Northern California started an online radio station two years ago. Today Rancheria Radio is a successful adjunct to the Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians.

The Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians of Northern California started an online radio station, Rancheria Radio, two years ago.

The tribe operates the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort, and also a hotel, RV park, general store and gas station.

The radio studio was transformed from an unused room once part of the tribal governmental building. It offers four channels, including Spin, Fuze, Ranch and Sage and will soon start a fifth: a Native American channel.

Spin plays top 40, Fuze plays active rock, Ranch plays country and Sage offers easy listening.

The tribe brought in professional radio people to create the station, led by CEO Rich Hoffman. Unlike normal radio stations, Rancheria Radio does not have an FM or AM signal. You can only tune into it using either a website or a mobile app.
