Trump Plaza Set to Implode January 29

The shuttered former Trump Plaza Casino and tower in Atlantic City, the first casino owned by President Donald Trump and one of several to close in 2014, will be imploded January 29, shortly after the expected end of the Trump presidency with the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th U.S. president.

Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small and state officials have deemed the building, owned by billionaire developer Carl Icahn, as a “public safety hazard,” after numerous incidents of portions of the structure tumbling to the street below.

A report in Newsweek cited the financial difficulties that have marred the history of the Trump Plaza property. “Trump Organization bankruptcies dating back as far as 1992 plagued the operation with financial troubles for years, and city officials said the increasingly dilapidated property had become an eyesore,” the report said. “Citing disrepair, Trump in 2014 sued Trump Entertainment Resorts, which he no longer controlled, and demanded to have his name removed from the Trump Plaza building.”
