Though signs bearing Donald Trump’s name were removed from Atlantic City’s closed Trump Plaza casino last year, the faded and dirty outline of his name remained on the failed property.
But thanks to an appearance by Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton in front of the building earlier this month, those remnants of Trump’s name have been painted over.
Clinton appeared in the resort earlier this month to criticize the Republican presidential nominee’s record in the resort. The closed Plaza served as a perfect backdrop, even though Trump divested himself of control of the property in 2009.
Trump Plaza closed in 2014 and is now controlled by Tropicana Entertainment owned by billionaire Carl Icahn—the two have said they are friends. Trump’s name is still on the Trump Taj Mahal under a brand agreement.
However, that Trump casino is currently being picketed by the city’s main casino union which is on strike there. Clinton appeared on the picket lines as well.
Trump sued to have his name removed from the Plaza last year while it was still controlled by Trump Entertainment, but removal of the large letters left a stained outline that was as easy to read as when the letters where in place. They have now been covered over with black paint, according to local media.
