Italy’s Tuscan region has approved new measures to combat gambling addiction. They include higher penalties, improved Know Your Customer training, and a minimum of 500 meters (550 yards) from ATMs.

Max €5000 fine for infractions

The Tuscany region of Italy has introduced stronger measures to fight problem gambling.

According to CDC Gaming Reports, the new rules include higher fines for operators who do not address the problem; increased training of managers and operators to help them identify the problem; and a minimum distance of 500 meters (550 yards) between gaming halls and ATMs or businesses that buy gold.

The penalties include a minimum €1000 (US$1,230) to a maximum €5000 (US$6,141) if gaming operators fail to follow the new rules.

Stefano Scaramelli, president of the local Commission of Health, said the new measures put Tuscany at the forefront of proactive action against problem gambling in the country.
