Twin River Finalizes Buy of Kansas City Isle Of Capri

Twin River Worldwide Holdings Inc. recently closed on its $61 million purchase of the Isle of Capri Casino in Kansas City, Missouri—the market’s lowest-performing casino—from Eldorado Resorts, new owners of Caesars Entertainment. The casino will be renamed Casino KC. Twin River President and Chief Executive Officer George Papanier said the company will “substantially reposition the casino with a transformational redevelopment plan” to begin in 2021.

Papanier explained, in an effort to regain market share, the company will build a new land-based building that will “house all the non-gaming activities and include branded restaurants, our future sportsbook and retail, and will link the existing parking structure to the casino, which will provide a much better sense of arrival and an overall better customer experience.”

Located on the Missouri River near the Kit Bond Bridge and Front Street, the property’s riverboat appearance will be transformed with a modern new look, Papanier said. An amphitheater and on-site hotel also may be added.

Isle of Capri opened in 1996 as the $100 million Hilton Flamingo. Missouri Gaming Commission data show the property has consistently lagged in revenue behind the area’s three other casinos–Harrah’s in North Kansas City, Argosy Casino in Riverside and Ameristar Casino near Worlds of Fun.
