It looks like greyhound racing in the U.K. will continue, despite a surge in Covid-19 pandemic cases. The Greyhound Board of Great Britain indicates that the sport will operate without fans.

“I have seen the comments being made on social media regarding the apparent pausing of elite sports by the government,” said GBGB Managing Director Mark Bird. “There appears to be no substance to these assertions and certainly not from the government.”

Earlier this month, the Irish government said greyhound racing, horse racing and equestrian events would continue, according to SBC News.

The government has provided financial relief to greyhound racing throughout the pandemic with the GBGB receiving £1 million (US$1.4 million) to protect and safeguard the sport’s welfare through the winter.
