A reconstituted Gambling Business Group (GBG) has created a new board, consisting of officials from MERKUR UK, Scientific Games, Novomatic, Inspired Entertainment, Game Nation, Entain, Welcome Break, Roadchef and Extra. The board met for the first time on November 9, according to European Gaming.
“There’s no doubt that this board is among the most influential groups in U.K. land-based gaming,” GGB Chief Executive Peter Hannibal said.
The brands are investing in the U.K. high street and helping to respond to post-Covid challenges. They employ local people, sustain significant local and regional supply chains and providing safe, secure, and socially responsible gaming entertainment.
Both the online and the seaside sectors of the industry have their own representation, leaving high street businesses without a clear and defined voice, said the GBG. The group led by its board of directors will be addressing these issues and filling the void, Hannibal said.
“We are now in the process of finalizing the detail of our strategic plan for high street gaming, which once confirmed we will unveil and share with the industry,” he said.
Adam Hodges, chief executive of Game Nation, said the group is committed to implementing change. “I strongly believe that if we want to shift the public’s perception of gambling, then we need a combined approach across the industry with all sub-sectors working collaboratively to influence real change. The Gambling Business Group has the influence, the reputation and the focus to achieve this.”
