U.K. Lottery Seeks New Operator

The U.K. Gambling Commission has initiated efforts to award the fourth National Lottery license. The selected company will receive a 10-year license beginning when the existing one expires in 2023. Camelot has held the current one since 1994.

Those organizations wishing to seek a license must register for the first part of the competition. If it passes that initial section, the company can receive an invitation to apply. The Gambling Commission has already seen keen interest from potential applicants. The agency expects to designate a winner in September 2021, according to the Gambling Insider.

The National Lottery raised more than £41 billion (US$54.5 billion) for good causes in the U.K., since 1994.

“The National Lottery is a national treasure. It has a reputation for providing enjoyable games and a high degree of player protection, as well as a rich history of prize giving and returns to good causes,” Gambling Commission CEO Neil McArthur said.
