U.S. Casino Revenues Tick Up in March

Commercial casino revenues are up dramatically in the first months of 2017. Revenues increase 7 percent over last year according to a report by the University of Nevada Las Vegas Center for Gaming Research.

Commercial casino revenues in the U.S. for March ticked up by 7 percent over the previous year, to .7 billion.

Nevada had the highest increase of 7.4 percent for the month, according to figures prepared by the University of Nevada Las Vegas Center for Gaming Research. The state’s share of the total earnings was 27 percent, or $991 million.

Next was Pennsylvania with $289.5, which was no significant increase over the previous year.

Illinois’s gaming revenue increased 10 percent for March, to $249.9 million.

Louisiana’s gaming made $291.3 million, a 9 percent increase over the year before.

Atlantic City, New Jersey also posted strong earnings for March: $221.8 million, 9 percent higher than in 2016.

Maryland posted dramatic increases of 44 percent due to the opening last year of the MGM National Harbor, bringing the state commercial casino total for March to $141.1 million.

West Virginia’s commercial casinos took in $49.4 million, a 7.2 percent drop over March of 2016.

In January, the U.S. commercial casino industry increased 3.5 percent over last year, with a total of $3.38 billion. The next month the total decreased 2 percent compared to the previous month, although as a whole it improved to $3.39 billion. The dip was attributed to the fact that February had one less day in 2017 than in 2017 due to leap year.
