The 2016 edition of Best Law Firms by U.S. News & World Report named Cory Aronovitz one of the nation’s top gaming-law attorneys. He is the founder of Casino Law Group in Chicago and the International Masters of Gaming Law. Aronovitz is a frequent writer and speaker on gaming topics, a member of the Gaming Law Review and an adjunct professor of gaming law at the John Marshall Law School. “I am truly honored to once again be included in this prestigious annual report, amongst such distinguished colleagues. Accolades such as these inspire me to be the best lawyer I can,” he said.
Aronovitz served as legal counsel to the Illinois Gaming Board, then developed a practice with a focus on commercial gambling. He has been instrumental in developing law and policy related to gambling and has represented numerous operators of video gambling devices and hundreds of bars, taverns, veterans and fraternal locations.
In 2013, Aronovitz worked with the Illinois Gaming Board and the Illinois legislature to amend the video gambling act. The clarification in the statute has allowed municipalities to pass ordinances related to electronic sweepstakes, generating revenue for local governments.
Said Aronovitz, “Illinois has a strong public policy against illegal gambling and has developed a significant regulatory structure to maintain the integrity of gambling activities. However, the criminal code and video gambling statute specifically allows for electronic sweepstakes when conducted in a specific manner.”
