Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment says that it’s still interested in building an integrated resort in Japan, although it doesn’t want to talk about where yet.
In replying to an inquiry by GGRAsia, MGE CEO Mario Kontomerkos commented, “While we are unable to confirm specific regional locations, Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment is a company that specializes in large-scale master-planned resort development in global destination markets, including a new, world-class integrated entertainment resort… located at one of the busiest airport hubs in Northern Asia.”
Kontomerkos was referencing the Inspire casino integrated resort that MGE is building in Incheon, South Korea.
Several Japanese prefectures (administrative divisions) have said they are interested in hosting an integrated resort and will soon issue a request-for-proposal soliciting private sector partners.
Kontomerkos would not confirm whether MGE would be responding to any RFP except to state “Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment is currently evaluating options in Japan.”
He told GGRAsia “We see Japan as a great source of opportunity for tourism and integrated entertainment resort development and will continue to seek large entertainment markets where our unique product can truly shine to sophisticated and mobile consumers.”
Plans for “Inspire,” the company’s multi-billion dollar IR development in Incheon, Korea, have not changed, according to Kontomerkos.
