The Nielsen Company recently released a report indicating UK gambling firms spent more than 2.8 million on TV advertising over the last three years. Advertising spending totaled 7.3 million in 2012 and 6.6 million in 2015, a 46 percent increase.

Nielsen noted those figures do not include an additional $223.4 million spent on lottery advertising, nor do they include the recent increase in advertising leading up to the Euro 2016 football tournament.

In 2013, Ofcom reported television ads for bingo, casinos and sports betting had soared by 500 percent in six prior years. However, it noted those ads helped boost gambling industry revenues to $16.66 billion, up from $12 billion in 2012.
