UK Gaming Sites Claim ‘Unusual Activities’

The worst race results for bookmakers in several years during the annual Cheltenham Festival racing meet (l.) triggered several Isle of Man gaming sites to shut down several user accounts and restrict access, pending investigations into unusual betting activities. The sites say several customers abused special promotions and violated terms of use during the racing event.

The owners of four Isle of Man-based online gaming sites say unusual activities during the Cheltenham Festival have them investigating several accountholders.

The sites, TLC Vet, Fun88.co.uk, 138.com, and 12Bet, notified several customers that their accounts were frozen and suspended, pending an investigation into potential use violations.

The sites say several customers abused special promotions systems to take advantage of special offers related to the Cheltenham Festival. One punter said he could not access a total of £2,600 in account with the four gaming sites.

New reports indicate an unusual run of wins among punters alerted the gaming sites’ operators that something illegal or unauthorized might have occurred during the prestigious racing event. Reports say the festival incurred the worst race results in years for bookmakers.

TGP Holdings CEO Garth Kimber said the sites had to act, “Following unprecedented volumes and unusual activities during the Cheltenham racing festival the company has followed our regulator approved procedures and terms and conditions and reviewed activity deemed suspicious.

“All payments were processed for accounts not deemed to be under investigation and additionally all payments have now been processed for those accounts reviewed and found not to have been in breach of our terms and conditions.”

Kimber said the “relevant authorities” have been notified, but did not elaborate on the “unusual activities” that triggered the actions.

The Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Committee said it is “aware of the matter, however it is standard policy for the Gambling Supervision Commission not to comment on regulatory or compliance matters relating to its licensed operators.”
