With the UK Gambling Commission saying that more than one third of online betting operator have been asked to improve their operations, the UK’s Labor Party is calling for a complete review of licenses issued after 2014.
The party’s deputy leader, Tom Watson, has written a letter to both commission CEO Neil McArthur and to Jeremy Wright, the UK culture secretary calling into question the integrity of many operators.
Watson said the commission cannot be in a position where it is constantly trying to catch-up with the industry and called for a more structured, efficient response that would begin with an overhaul of the register of current remote gambling sector licenses.
Watson said a UK gambling license should be viewed as a sign for credibility and trust not used as an excuse for operators to push the limits of the license.
Over the past 18 months, the Gambling Commission has conducted assessments of 123 online operators and told 45 to submit an action plan to raise standards.
