The UK is moving to shore up a loophole in its lottery regulations that allows players to but lottery tickets in other countries as a discount.
The UK Gambling Act bars players from entering National Lottery games at discounted prices. However, lottery websites found a loophole and allow UK residents to wager on the outcomes of EuroMillions draws in other countries that are members of the EU, according to yogonet.com.
UK officials argue that these types of wagers mean lottery sites are not paying taxes on the tickets, which support sports and arts in the country.
Lotteries Minister Tracey Crouch said regulators plan on taking action in order to prevent confusion in regard to EuroMillions draws and ensure the funds for good causes are well protected.
