Ukraine Cancels Casino Licenses Linked to Russia

The licenses of three casino operators in Ukraine have been canceled after police and security investigations discovered that they were “controlled by residents of the Russian Federation.”

They are: Play Fan Investment, a casino and sports betting operator; and casino operators Alphagme and Joker UA.

The licenses were pulled by the Ukraine Gambling and Lotteries Regulatory Commission (KRAIL), which said the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Police in Kyiv determined the companies could not show they were not acting in the interests of Russia, which invaded Ukraine ten months ago.

A requirement for holding a license in Ukraine is for licensees to show that they “do not act in the interests of residents of foreign countries that carry out armed aggression against Ukraine.”

KRAIL said in a statement: “KRAIL emphasizes the need to strictly comply with the provisions of the current legislation of Ukraine, the inadmissibility of any ties between the organizers of gambling games and states carrying out armed aggression against Ukraine.”
