An unnamed member of Ukraine’s Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries—known as KRAIL—has been arrested by authorities who say he received $90,000 in exchange for granting gaming permits and licenses.
Detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine received information about bribes over the summer, then carried on undercover investigations, according to iGaming Business.
The official who received the bribe conducted his business in Chernihiv and the Zaporozhye region. NABU said investigations are looking into other members of KRAIL for what may be an organized criminal group.
KRAIL was set up after Ukraine legalized gambling last year. Last month, the agency blocked 594 illegal gambling websites.
