Ukraine’s legislative Rada has approved the establishment of a Gambling and Lottery Commission as part of a formalization of gaming regulation in the country.
The commission, identified in series of secondary laws aimed at supporting the new regulatory regime, will oversee licensing, develop subordinate oversight agencies at the regional level and will monitor operators for compliance, though its enforcement powers have yet to be spelled out, according to a report by UK-based betting industry news site SBC.
The report said the commission will be headed by a six-member executive and a director approved by the government’s cabinet of ministers and serving a four-year term.
It will assume its powers next year from headquarters in the capital of Kiev.
The decree announcing the commission said it will provide a “positive business climate for attracting investments for the gambling industry,” ensure “equal conditions for economic activity in the gambling industry” and promote cooperation with “corresponding gambling regulatory foreign bodies.”
