Asian gaming giant Universal Entertainment Corp. has signed a letter of intent with video game developer Capcom Co. as part of a planned new business alliance. The Japanese firms will join forces to build their respective gaming machine enterprises.
The deal will use Capcom’s content development and Universal’s cabinet experience to develop, manufacture and sell pachislot machines throughout Japan, reports Inside Asian Gaming.
The partnership will hand over responsibility for the development of Universal’s pachislot content to Capcom while providing development assistance through the sharing of “content development equipment.” Capcom will allow Universal to use its copyrights to sell and promote new products.
In a statement on its corporate website, Universal said, “With this business alliance, the company seeks to leverage the mutual strengths of both organizations to develop, manufacture and sell amusement machines together with Capcom and, in doing so, maximize the earnings power of both companies.” Capcom is best known for developing video game titles including “Street Fighter” and “Resident Evil.”
