Japan’s Universal Entertainment Corp. has introduced two major innovations for slot machines, including technology that allows players to use multiple currencies, as opposed to only the official currency of the jurisdiction.
Universal said the multi-currency option allows players to avoid the time and inconvenience associated with money exchange services and also saves the operator significant personnel costs related to such transactions.
The system is capable of accepting all major currencies, exchanging bills into the Philippine peso at a predetermined rate. It also has a function to help prevent money laundering, such as restrictions on the amount of foreign currency that can be played.
In a stock exchange filing, Universal said it also has developed a Slot Program Play System that enables operators to provide preferred customer services to VIP players who spend a certain amount of money over a defined time. The Slot Program Play System rewards players with free game play and points, and is designed to improve services to VIPs. It works by “systemizing” rolling programs that have been administered as preferred customer services at baccarat and other table games.
Universal has deployed both systems at its Okada Manila property, and the company plans to roll out the product across Asia “as part of a new manufacturing business,” according to the Asia Gaming Brief news site.
