UNLV to Host January AI Conference

The University of Nevada Las Vegas’ William S. Boyd School of Law will host a conference entitled “Artificial Intelligence, Biometrics & Big Data in the Gaming Industry: Privacy Protections and Public Policy,” from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. January 17, 2020.

The program will concentrate on what UNLV called “a single but potentially seismic topic to the gaming industry—artificial intelligence, biometrics, and the use of big data in the gaming industry.”

The conference will begin with an explanation of this emerging technology and a discussion of current and potential applications in security/surveillance, responsible gaming, and marketing/customer experience.

That will be followed by the legal framework that may accompany the use of this technology, focusing on player privacy. Legal experts will discuss the impact of current and proposed privacy laws and the consequences of data breaches. The focus will then shift to the potential gaming regulatory issues concerning the technology from its mandatory implementation for responsible gaming, as is being considered in Australia and Japan.

Speakers will address concerns regarding its use for patrons that have not consented to the use of their information for marketing or other commercial purposes.

A panel of gaming regulators from Nevada, Illinois, and Missouri will help inform these topics from a regulatory perspective. The conference will discuss best practices for the gaming industry and model regulations for regulators that meet the goals of all the relevant interest groups.

Speakers will include:

  • Joe Bertolone, director of UNLV International Center for Gaming Regulation
