Vancouver’s newest casino has opened to strong support from the local market.
Located next to BC Place Stadium, the C$640 million Parq Vancouver, the largest private development in British Columbia, was filled to capacity within 30 minutes of its debut the night of September 29, forcing the city fire department to close its main entrance.
“When the other parts of town are going to sleep, that’s when we come to life,” said Marion Harper Treskin, general manager of the Parq’s two Marriott hotels.
The main draw, the two-level casino, spans 72,000 square feet. The resort features a 30,000-square-foot rooftop park with skyline views plus 60,000 square feet of meetings and events space, including Vancouver’s largest ballroom, and eight restaurants and lounges overseen by Vegas restaurateur Elizabeth Blau and Canadian chef Kim Canteenwalla.
“Vancouver is on a world stage, an international stage, and so we had to come up with the right vision,” said Scott Menke, co-founder of Parq’s parent company, Paragon Gaming.
