The newly renovated Strat has joined a growing list of Las Vegas casinos employing ACS’ PlayOn cashless betting system for table games.
PlayOn allows gamblers to purchase up to $3,000 in chips with a debit card directly at the game, freeing them from having to halt their play and leave the table to find an ATM or cashier’s window.
The Strat is evaluating the system at select tables with a view to expanding its use in the months ahead.
“We see this as a great convenience for our players,” said Jay Fennel, vice president of gaming development and technology for Strat owner Golden Entertainment.
“The obvious benefit is that it is efficient,” Fennel added. “Sometimes the time you spend finding an ATM and coming back to the table disrupts your flow. Plus, you don’t have to risk losing your spot.”
Reno-based ACS introduced PlayOn in 2016 in tribal casinos in California and New Mexico. It first migrated to Nevada in March 2019 in the form of field trials at Station Casinos’ Red Rock Casino Resort in Las Vegas. It was approved for deployment by state regulators at the end of last year and quickly found a home at several more Station locations in town, including the newly renovated Palms Casino Resort. It’s also available on Fremont Street at the D Las Vegas.
“Overall, the guests love the convenience of the devices,” said Dustin Boshers, director of table games at the Palms.
Casey Clark, senior vice president of strategic communications for the American Gaming Association, hailed PlayOn as a vehicle that will help the gaming industry catch up to technologies well-established in other industries.
“Modernizing payment is something AGA is focused on this year,” he said. “Our focus has been on customer choice and introducing more opportunities in terms of how they pay for that experience.”
