Venetian Executive Slain at Company Picnic

VP of Casino Operations Mia Banks was shot to death at a Venetian outing in Las Vegas and another high-ranking executive was badly wounded in the same attack. The suspect, a long-time dealer at the resort, was reported to be still at large.

Las Vegas police were on the hunt last week for a man who shot and killed a top executive at The Venetian and wounded a second Venetian executive during a company picnic.

Mia Banks, 54, vice president of casino operations at the luxury Strip resort, was shot in the chest and head at close range on the evening of September 15 and died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

The second victim, Hector Rodriguez, executive director of table games, was listed in critical condition at the hospital.

The motive for the shootings, which occurred around 6 p.m. at Sunset Park near McCarran International Airport, was not known. Investigators classified it as an act of workplace violence, and the victims appeared to have been targeted.

The suspect, Anthony Wrobel, 42, a Venetian casino dealer for about 14 years, was captured in Texas two days later, according to news reports.
