The Venetian Macao recently received ISO 20121 Event Sustainability Management System certification, becoming the first property in Macao to receive the certification, along with Marina Bay Sands, its sister facility in Singapore.
ISO 20121 is a practical tool that provides meeting venues and event planners a framework of policies, procedures and processes that address the management of environmental, economic and social sustainability issues throughout an event cycle. The standards for the certification are set by the International Organization for Standardization, the world’s largest developer of voluntary international standards, and the certification is awarded by the London-based BSI Group, the world’s largest national standards and certification body.
Gunther Hatt, executive vice president of operations for Sands China Ltd., said, “The Venetian Macao is extremely delighted and honored to have earned this certification as an important recognition of our sustainability efforts. The company has set very high standards for the management of environmentally sustainable meetings in the region, and this ISO 20121 certification is a welcome indicator of the success of those efforts. We hope more and more meeting planners will be encouraged to hold eco-friendly events, and that they will see The Venetian Macao as a ready, willing and competent partner in fulfilling their sustainability goals.”
Sands’ sustainability strategy, Sands ECO360°, is designed to help minimize the environmental impact of Las Vegas Sands’ global operations. In that regard, the Venetian Macao has implemented several green meeting initiatives to ensure environmentally responsible events can be created for its eco-conscious clients in Macao. The Venetian Macao also has a Green Meeting Concierge team responsible for introducing event planners to the Sands ECO360° Meetings program, combining the integrated resort’s high-performance facilities, standard sustainable practices, green meeting options, community programs and much more.
The Venetian Macao also holds a Macao Green Hotel Gold Award from the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. government, and recently achieved Bronze Benchmarking by EarthCheck.
