The Victorian Gambling Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) has announced the appointment of Annette Kimmitt as its new chief executive officer, effective March 21.

According to a press release from the gaming regulator, Kimmitt has more than 37 years’ professional and commercial experience, including several executive leadership roles with major Australian and international firms.

She is the former CEO and managing partner of MinterEllison, Australia’s largest law firm.

Prior to that role, Kimmitt was the global growth markets leader at multinational professional services firm EY (Ernst & Young) and has previously held several other high-profile leadership roles with EY, including Asia-Pacific accounts managing partner, Melbourne managing partner and managing partner of assurance. She is also a board member of the Melbourne Business School.

Kimmitt was appointed CEO following an extensive recruitment process. “Her background in the business world and her experience in audit and risk management, in particular, will be a huge asset to our regulation of the gambling and liquor industries and ensuring harm minimization,” said VGCCC Chairwoman Fran Thorn.

With Kimmit’s appointment, acting CEO Scott May will return to his role as general counsel and executive director of regulatory policy and legal services.
