Check-chasing to be banned
The Australian state of Victoria will hand down new anti-problem gambling measures including limits on ATM withdrawals.
According to the Herald Sun, Victoria’s Minister for Gaming and Liquor Regulation Marlene Kairouz said the government will take “strong action to reduce the harm from gambling on our community.”
ATM withdrawals in slot clubs will be capped at AU$500 (US$400). In addition, the government will impose a ban on check-cashing and purchases of cashless gambling tickets on credit cards.
“We are capping pokies numbers across the state, limiting daily cash withdrawals in venues and restricting betting advertising in our public spaces, Kairouz said. “This is about protecting people and helping those who choose to gamble stick to their limits.”
