The Victorian government has introduced new responsible gaming measures for all online gaming operators that are licensed in the state, including those who don’t actually offer services to Victorian bettors.
Among the new harm minimization requirements is a new training program, called Responsible Service of Wagering, that will be mandatory for all gaming staff members. Operators must also provide their registered bettors with monthly account statements.
According to government officials, bettors will also have more opportunities to decline or opt out of targeted marketing materials such as emails and advertisements.
The Victorian Casino Control Commission, which was just formed last year, will oversee and enforce the new regulations.
Melissa Horne, Victoria’s minister for gaming and liquor regulation, told Inside Asian Gaming that regulators would strictly enforce the new measures, and that “online betting companies will be held to account if they don’t follow the directions.”
Horne said the new initiatives will ensure that “more Victorians are in control of their gambling habits and wagering and betting gaming providers are given stronger responsibilities to keep their consumers safe.”
