Vietnam Mega-Resort to Open in April

Vietnam developer VinGroup has announced that it will open its massive US$2.8 billion casino resort in Phu Quoc on April 21.

Spanning more than 24,700 acres, the Phu Quoc United Center resort will offer 10,000 hotel rooms, Vietnam’s largest theme park, an animal conservation habitat, an 18-hole golf course, shopping and entertainment district, meeting facilities and even a hospital.

The development also includes the Corona Resort & Casino, which opened in January 2019 as the only casino in Vietnam where locals can gamble; several other locals casinos are now in the works. In order to gamble, Vietnamese residents must be 21 years of age or older, have a monthly income of at least VND10 million (US$445), and pay an entry fee.

“This is also the only place in Vietnam where visitors can spend all night long at the first five-star casino open to Vietnamese people,” VinGroup stated in its release. “With 1,000 slot machines and 100 game tables and integrated with a 600-seat theatre, the Corona Casino is comparable to famous casinos in the world,” the conglomerate added.

“With a diverse ecosystem to meet high-quality life in addition to a large-scale and world-class entertainment industry, Phu Quoc United Center will not be merely an entertainment complex but a top resort, business and luxury product in Vietnam,” VinGroup said in a statement.

“The ‘sleepless city’ model of Phu Quoc United Center not only lays the foundation for night-time economic development of Vietnam but also marks a step forward, turning Vietnam into a new international destination on the world tourist map.”

A VinGroup subsidiary, leisure and hospitality firm VinPearl Co., recently announced a proposal to develop a new US$2.2 billion integrated resort, including a casino, on Hon Tre Island in Khanh Hoa Province. If approved, the development would also offer a 1,200-room five-star hotel, convention center and a transportation system, plus preparation of an area for development of more five-star and six-star hotels, according to local media.
