Vietnam MOF Assumes Casino Permit Role

The Vietnamese government has given the country’s Ministry of Finance the authority to award casino business licenses. It’s unclear if the ministry will be involved in a three-year pilot program to introduce locals gaming.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance will now have the power to grant business licenses to “casinos and gaming services,” according to VietnamNet. The report didn’t indicate if the ministry will participate in the government’s three-year pilot program to allow “economically qualified locals to gamble,” reported GGRAsia.

Under the decree, potential casino operators must be willing to invest a minimum capital of US$2 billion and submit plans to manage what the report called “the negative impacts of casino operations.”
