Vietnam to Choose Casino Operator

Vietnamese officials are preparing to choose an investor to build a casino resort in the province of Quang Ninh. The selection will be made in March, with construction set to begin in April. An airport also will be built in the vicinity on Van Don Island.

The Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee has been charged with choosing an operator to run a new casino resort in the province, reports the Vietnam Investment Review.

“We haven’t decided who will be the investor in those projects. But whoever is chosen will have to start construction in April,” said Nguyen Van Doc, chairman of the committee.

Interested operators include the Las Vegas Sands Corp., Phoenix Macau Tailoi and Casinos Austria, according to Vietnam.net. Vietnam’s Tuan Chau Group, in association with Australia’s ISC Corp. has submitted a specific plan including a US $7 billion budget.

The Quang Ninh Provincial Economic Zone Management Authority says the domestic Sun Group, owner of luxury resorts in Danang, has also submitted a plan for the casino and an airport to be developed on Van Don Island.
