Vigo County, Indiana is now accepting applications for a casino license. A spokesman for the Indiana Gaming Commission said “several companies” already have expressed interest in applying by the September 22 deadline.
The license application process reopened following the commission’s rejection of Lucy Luck Gaming’s renewal request in June. Local businessman Greg Gibson, president at Lucy Luck Gaming, had planned to build a $125 million Hard Rock-branded casino on the east side of Terre Haute. It would have created 600 jobs and generated $7 million for local governments.
In denying Lucy Luck’s request, the commission said the company did not have an executive team in place and that casino operations were not fully funded. Gibson said his team “worked their tails off” to make the development a reality. He stated there was a plan for a team but no gaming operations actively were happening as yet.
Previously, Gibson said Lucy Luck may resubmit an application. To date, the company has not issued any updates.
The application for the Vigo County license is $50,000. Applicants also must submit a Vigo County Inland Casino proposal. After receiving the applications and proposals, the commission will determine a date to begin the review process.
In a statement, the commission said, “The Commission is committed to ensuring that the applicant selected for the Vigo County casino meets or exceeds all applicable standards and presents the highest potential for successful operation of a casino. It is a top priority commission to issue this license as expeditiously as possible.”
