J.C. Hospitality, the ownership group that manages Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, recently announced that CEO Richard Bosworth will resign from his position at the end of March.
The announcement was first reported March 19 in a Tweet from the account Vital Vegas.
The outgoing CEO had long served as the head of the ownership group, and was instrumental in facilitating the $500 million acquisition of Hard Rock Las Vegas by Virgin Group back in 2018.
Bosworth was also a key figure in the $200 million redevelopment of the property before it officially reopened in March of 2021. Bosworth himself did not comment on the announcement, but J.C. Hospitality did confirm that he will maintain his ownership stake in the property.
On March 20, J.C. issued a statement saying that Bosworth “will be taking the next step in his career as he moves on to pursue new ventures in hospitality.”
Notably, Bosworth was also credited with bringing in Mohegan Gaming to operate the casino of Virgin Las Vegas, which represented one of the first tribal expansions into the Las Vegas market.
Not everything went according to plan, however, as the property went without a sportsbook for the first two years of its existence—U.K.-based bookmaker Betfred Sportsbook was just licensed in Nevada at the beginning of 2023 after lengthy and somewhat mysterious delays.
Additionally, when the property held its grand reopening in March of 2021, it received $60,000 in fines for exceeding Covid-related capacity restrictions.
Despite the challenges, Bosworth leaves behind an operation with an extremely diverse management team, which, according to the Nevada Independent, had been on the CEO’s mind as early as 2015.
The property’s rooms are managed by Virgin Hotels and Hilton Hotels, the gaming operations are run by Mohegan, the events center is managed by AEG and the dining options are spread across eight operators.
