Virginia Casino Officials Form PAC

Betting on Virginia Jobs, a political action committee to promote a proposed casino resort in Bristol, recently was established with contributions of $50,000 each from the United Company and Clyde Stacy,

according to the Virginia Public Access Project. Stacy and United Company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jim McGlothlin are partners in the Bristol Resort and Casino proposed for the vacant Bristol Mall.

Betting on Virginia Jobs issued a statement noting, “The PAC was formed for those interested in helping advocate for bringing jobs and economic development to the cities contemplated in the legislation allowing for casinos. It is another voice to be an advocate for these projects.”

In the recent legislative session, Stacy and McGlothlin successfully helped pass Senate Bill 1126, which requires a study of casino gaming regulations by the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission. The commission’s report is due December 1. If the legislation is re-enacted by the legislature next year, it would establish the framework for the Virginia Lottery Board to oversee gaming and allow voter referendums to be held in Bristol, Danville, Portsmouth and Richmond.
