Walker Receives Kenosha Decision Extension

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (l.) has an extra six months to make a decision about the Menominee Tribe's $800 million off-reservation casino in Kenosha. The new deadline, February 19, 2015, takes some pressure off Walker who's running for re-election in November. The federal government approved the Menominee's application last August.

The U.S. Department of the Interior has approved Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s request for a 180-day extension regarding his decision about the Menominee Tribe’s Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Kenosha.

Last August the federal government approved the tribe’s application for the $800 million off-reservation casino complex at the former Dairyland Greyhound Park. Walker, who is running for re-election, has the final say on the issue and now has until February 19, 2015—well past the November elections–to deliberate. The original deadline was August 23, 2014.

Originally Walker said he would make a quick decision. But more recently he has hired experts to analyze the economic impact of a new casino.
