Washington-based Maverick Gaming is giving its recently acquired Nevada properties a new look.
Trevor Lynch, vice president of casino marketing and operations told the Elko, Nevada Daily Free Press: “We acquired the properties (Red Lion, Gold Country Inn and Casino and High Desert Inn) in 2019 and wanted to expand our reach in northern Nevada. We started with the Wendover properties.
“We are a new company—young, bold ‘mavericks.’”
Lynch noted that 90 percent of Elko casino activity comes from the local area. Maverick plans to add to the 330 employees in Elko. The casino interior will get the latest slot machines, new outdoor signage, exterior painting and landscaping. Later on the hotel rooms will get a facelift.
Lynch said the exterior of the Gold Country Inn and Casino “will really pop. There’s going to ‘ neon around the porte cochere and a light show underneath. There will be tracing lights all around the building.” A July 31 grand opening is planned.
The casino’s food venues are upgrading their menus and that the seafood buffet will probably return soon. “We have to have something in Elko that brings them off the highway,” said Lynch.
Maverick also hopes to partner with an airline to bring a few flights a week in and out of Elko, he said.
