The Spokane County Board of Commissioners June 29 voted to sell the 243 acre Spokane County Raceway to the Kalispel Tribe of Indians for $6.1 million.

The county has owned the raceway since 2007. Following public comment on the proposal, Commissioner Josh Kerns commented, “One of the common themes I heard today through public testimony was that when the Kalispel Tribe has a project they follow through in a first class fashion,” said Commissioner Josh Kerns. “They don’t do anything half-way. They have a proven track record of success when they embark on an endeavor. I am convinced that this decision is a win for everyone involved.”

Another commissioner, Al French, said that the track could be successful run by the county and needed investments. He said the sale, “puts the track back in the hands of the folks that have demonstrated leadership and the skillsets to develop world-class properties.”
