Washington Tribe Plans Casino Expansion

The Kalispel Tribe of Washington has broken ground for an expansion of its Northern Quest Resort and Casino (l.). The expansion will be for non-gaming amenities.

The Kalispel Tribe recently broke ground for an expansion and improvements to its Northern Quest Resort and Casino near Spokane, Washington. The improvements include a large apartment complex, RV park, casino expansion and a cinema complex.

The 50,000-square foot casino expansion will not be for more gaming, but to make the casino more family-friendly, according to Kalispel Tribal Economic Authority COO Phil Haugen. That will include a Kid Quest with electronic games and Cyber Quest with adult amenities such as pool games and ping pong. The largest addition will be a retail gift shop to be called Windfall.

The tribe will break ground on the apartments and the cinemas in a few months. The tribe expects the construction work to be completed by May 2018.

Brandon Haugen, general manager of Kalispel Development Company—and Phil Haugen’s son—told Indian Country Today “The apartments will be phased in. The first building will likely open 12 months after we break ground. Every month after that we’ll be looking at opening another apartment building.” Six total are planned.

The goal is to provide housing for up to 1,000 new military personnel who are expected at the nearby Fairchild Air Force Base because of an expansion of the number of planes.

The theaters will include luxury reclining seating where patrons can order food and drinks.
