Washoe-Poarch Creek Casino Progressing

A 150-slot casino, a joint project of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California and the Poarch Creeks of Alabama, will open in July at the Wa She Shu Travel Plaza in Gardnerville, Nevada. The Poarch Creeks will manage the casino and pay rent and taxes to the Washoes.

Gilbane Building Company announced the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California and the Alabama-based Poarch Band of Creek Indians will open their casino at the Wa She Shu Travel Plaza in Gardnerville, Nevada in July. Project Manager Kurt Parriott said, “We are happy to complete this work for the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California and allow them to thrive in their new business and operation endeavors.”

The Poarch Creeks will manage the casino, featuring 150 slot machines plus a restaurant and bar, and pay rent and taxes to the Washoes. Expansion will be possible in the future, Gilbane said. The 6,000 square foot travel plaza, which opened last month, has a gas station and convenience store.

The two tribes broke ground on the 15,000 square foot facility last October.
