Waterfront Philippines to Upgrade Resorts

Waterfront Philippines Inc. has announced a plan to renovate four properties, including its three casino hotels. The company will spend PHP1.65 billion (US$32.6 million) on the project.

A response to growing competition

Starting next year, Waterfront Philippines Inc. will renovate four resort properties including three casino hotels, the company said in a filing to the Philippine Stock Exchange last week.

The overhaul of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino will cost an estimated PHP400 million (US$7.85 million) and is slated to start in early 2018. The renovation at Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino Mactan, also in Cebu province, will cost approximately PHP 450 million (US$8.8 million) and will begin in mid-2018, reported GGRAsia.

The Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino will also get a facelift to the tune of PHP350 million (US$6.87 million), the company said.

Waterfront’s three casino hotels feature gaming facilities under the “Casino Filipino” brand, run by the state-run regulator, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. The firm is making the move in response to new competition in the country, President Kenneth Gatchalian told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
